About the OCC

The Oakville Children's Choir was formed in 1994 by its Music Director Glenda Crawford and has achieved tremendous success since then. Holding fast to its mission of bringing world-class choral, musical and performance training to young people, it has become a comprehensive choral programme for over 150 auditioned choristers ranging in age from 7 through 17 years. The Choir's wide range of repertoire from contemporary to classical, varied concert programming and its high standard of performance has earned it an excellent reputation within the performing arts community both locally and internationally. International awards received include Second Place in the Children’s Choir class at the International Choral Competition Kathaumixw in British Columbia (July 2002), Third Placewith Gold Standard at 9th International Choral Competition in Budapest (April 2003) and Third Place with Gold Standard in the Children’s Choir class at the 3rd Choral Olympics in Bremen, Germany (July 2004).     More locally, the Senior and Chamber choirs each placed 2nd in their respective classes in the 2004 CBC National Radio Competition.

The Choir presents three annual concerts for the Oakville community. In addition, the Choir performs at workshops, makes guest appearances at community functions and collaborates with other fine choirs in Ontario. The Choir consistently places first in local music festivals. Past seasons highlights include “Carmina Burana” with the Oakville Symphony, “Stabat Mater” with the Oakville Chamber Orchestra, and “A Boy is Born” with the Elmer Iseler Singers. For this year's performance schedule click here.

Other festival appearances include the Niagara International Music Festival in St. Catherines, Ontario where the OCC was “choir-in-residence”, Tuscany International Children’s Choral Festival in Florence, Italy, Festival 500 in St. John’s Newfoundland, and the 2005 OCDA Convention in Los Angeles. In 2006, the choir has been invited to participate in the Prague Children’s Music Festival.

In 1999, the OCC introduced SING! a biannual elementary school choir festival and workshop.    In 2006, with the assistance of a Canada Council Grant, this will be extended to a 2-day event named Choralfest. For more information about Choralfest, click here.
