Joining The Oakville Children's Choir!
Auditions at the OCC
All prospective choristers are required to audition for The Oakville Children's Choir. The purpose of the audition is to assess the child's readiness and ability level to ensure they are placed in the appropriate choir. We try to make audition a positive experience for each child so that he or she gains self confidence and interest in singing with the OCC as a part of the experience.
Auditions are open to all children ages 5 to 18 (and ages 7-25 for 'A Few Good Men' - Boys and Young Men's Choir), and no previous choral experience is required.
There is a non-refundable fee of $15 to audition.
What to Expect at the Auditions
Auditions are conducted by one of the OCC's 3 conductors. New auditions take approximately 15 minutes. Parents are most welcome to stay during the audition.
For the audition your child will be asked to:
- Sing a prepared song of their choice
- Read a short text
- Perform age appropriate rhythm and pitch exercises
- Complete a short theory assessment (Grade 3+)
Audition/Reaudition
Here are the audition and reaudition instructions and registration forms. Please note also that confidential financial aid is available.
New Energy Exchange Program
Singers who have graduated from high school and are in a post-secondary program of some sort are invited to apply to sing with the Chamber or AFGM choir programs in special mentorship roles as part of our new “energy exchange program.” The energy exchange program allows for graduates to participate in these two choirs through contributions of mentorship, leadership, fundraising, and specific contributions (setting up at concerts) in exchange for free tuition which many post-secondary students cannot afford.
The OCC is very proud of this new program as we feel that these older graduates are very much contributing to the culture of our Chamber and A Few Good Men choir programs and that they, ultimately, make the choirs stronger, help in growing our numbers, and strengthen our overall organization.

Choral singing helps your child:

- Foster community participation and awareness
- Develop leadership skills
- Increase creativity and abstract thinking
- Build lasting friendships
A Few Words from Oakville's Mayor:
"I am so proud of our Oakville Children's Choir, who recently performed at the World Choir Games and brought home two gold standings. They are evidence of the fact that Oakville creates champions. Let's do what our community does best - support our choir by attending their concerts as they prepare to represent our town at the next World Choir Olympics in Latvia in 2014."
Mayor Rob Burton
