This year, The Oakville Children’s Choir begins its 14th season of educating and enriching the youth of Halton through choral music programming. This season marks a time of change in musical leadership for the OCC but the
innovative programming, excellent choral music education and commitment to
community involvement remain the same. We are proud of the rich history of
this internationally recognized children’s choir and we recognize the OCC
founder, Glenda Crawford, and her vision in founding and bringing this
organization to excellence. We look forward to taking over the musical
leadership of the organization this season.
We are very pleased to present a varied concert series this season that
explores themes relevant to children and youth of today such as peace and
harmony, collaboration across cultures and our fragile environment. We look
forward to welcoming special guest artists from our community and beyond at
our concerts. We are also pleased to present a strong music education
component for our choristers featuring choral workshops with the Canadian
Chamber Choir directed by Dr. Julia Davids and the Boni Pueri Choir with
director Jakub Martinec. Our education outreach program also includes a
“composer chat” with young Canadian composer Jamie Hillman, dance and
movement workshops with choreographer Michelle Silagy, drama and expression
workshops with actor Ann O’Kane and the OCC poetry competition. We have
planned a season rich in variety of music and artistic collaborations.
We are both very excited to begin this new season with the Oakville Children’s
Choir! We welcome you to join us for the 2007/08 concert season as we
explore new horizons and continue raising our voices in song!
